When we decided that the Nokk would play an important role in Myth: A Frozen Tale, we knew we needed to push the Nokk in a more stylized direction than what was in the movie, and it felt like the perfect opportunity to push that ethereal-ness as much as possible. I had fallen in love with Annette Marnat’s and @jamwoodser ‘s beautiful, almost glowing visual development work of the Nokk for #Frozen2, and wanted to evoke a similar magic for Myth. We also needed two versions of the Nokk for Myth - a dark and a light version. These images are some of my exploration for what the VR Nokk could look like. I was so happy to have the chance to explore this character since I didn’t get to work on the Nokk in the film (and who DOESN’T want to paint a magical water horse???) I’m so happy with the final result, and I can’t wait until everyone can have the opportunity to experience the film! D'ailleurs la VF semble avoir essayé de "gommer" un peu cette théorie. Dans la VO, Olaf affirme un "Did you know that..." ("Saviez-vous que...") tandis qu'en VF la traduction a choisi un "Vrai ou Faux". Ce qui a pour effet de laisser un peu cette idée sous forme de théorie, potentiellement fausse, alors qu'elle était affirmée au milieu d'autres faits réels par Olaf en VO (qui en plus ajoute que cette idée est décriée par beaucoup mais est vraie). La théorie de l'eau (ayant une mémoire) n'étant ensuite réellement présente que lors d'événements trop magiques pour être réels, ce qui crée naturellement une distance avec la véracité de cette idée.

I remember when I was 3 or so and my grandfather put me in front of the saddle and galloped across the field, what is now the Burbank equestrian center. I remember being disappointed because our rental horse had a short tail. I was hoping for a long flowing fairytale tail. But the moment that horse flew across the field I was hooked. Saving baby sitting money bits at a time I was able to rent the horses on my own. After I started working at Disney I bought my first car and then a horse. The very first costume designs that I was asked to work on for #frozen2 over 2 years ago. These designs were for a scene that ultimately didn’t make it into the film, but that featured the girls traveling in inclement weather. While Elsa didn’t keep her hood, a lot of the elements of this design ended up being adopted into her travel coat. We were so early in the process that we didn’t have a plan for color yet, so I was asked to work in greyscale. We don’t always work this way, but sometimes it is good to switch things up! As we started to explore Elsa’s travel costume, we had just a few elements that we knew we needed to include. She needed to be wearing layers, her hemline had to be off the ground, and she needed to be wearing some kind of pant to support the amount of activity she would be put through. Also, if her costume could include an element that would move well in the wind (since we did know that Gale would be interacting with her), that would be a bonus. I thought it was important to include Gale in the design process to give everything a little more context. Normally on Frozen we try to hone in on a favorite design or two before we show our directors, but this was such new territory for us that we did show all of these designs (and probably more) to get their feedback. Ultimately, they asked for a combination of two of these designs and that is where we landed - can you tell which two? I love working with Elsa, and this assignment was certainly a challenge. Pour ce qui est de Mushu, ce n'est très certainement qu'une énième légende d'Internet. Si Jeffrey Katzenberg possède bien les droits, comment expliquer en effet que Mushu est toujours présent dans les parcs Disney, et a pu apparaître dans pleins de produits dérivés, jeux comme Kingdom Hearts ou même simplement dans Mulan 2 sorti bien après? Je pense que cette rumeur trouve l'une de ses sources dans le fait que Eddie Murphy (la voix originale) n'avait pas pu reprendre son role de Mushu pour Mulan 2 a cause d'une clause dans son contrat pour Shrek 2 (où il fait la voix de l’Âne), et fut remplacé par Mark Moseley. De plus, les frères Bancroft seraient sans doute au courant si tel était le cas.
L'absence dans ce remake a en revanche beaucoup de sens. Déjà, le personnage de Mushu n'est pas pas très apprécié par les chinois, le personnage, très comique, étant un dragon, l'un des symboles importants de Chine. Pour ne rien améliorer, le nom du personnage est inspiré du moo shu pork, un plat avec du cochon de la culture asiatique d'Amérique. Niveau classe, il y a mieux. Cette nouvelle version de Mulan cherchant à séduire le marché asiatique, il est cohérent de faire en sorte que le film leur plaise (ce qui se voit rien qu'avec le style du film dans le premier teaser) et donc gommer certains éléments un peu plus sensibles.

Je viens de découvrir un petit truc via Instagram : L'audition d'une actrice/chanteuse pour le rôle de Jasmine, Tara Sutaria. Apparemment, elle était à deux doigts d'obtenir le rôle. Personnellement, je trouve qu'elle collait plus physiquement à Jasmine mais bon
Dans un sens, je me dis que ces critiques élogieuses sont de toutes façon émises par des personnes "ralliées à la cause" d'une certaine manière. Mais en même temps, j'ai envie d'y croire, et j'y crois plutôt sans peine en voyant la bande-annonce.
La différence ? L'innovation. Au début du siècle dernier, ces procédés relevaient du génie pour créer un film et son ambiance parce que les contraintes étaient plus grande le mérite était extrême a réussir des techniques aussi difficiles et parfois inédite pour certains films. Nous sommes en 2018 a une époque ou le fond vert est de plus en plus utilisé, démocratisé depuis 20 ans et aussi de plus en plus décrié paradoxalement selon le film. Oui c'est un matériel dont il ne faut pas abuser et qu'il faut utiliser avec soin et pas juste un système acquis du cinéma qui fonctionne irréprochablement a tout les coups. C'est un outil informatique, pas une trouvaille artistique
Enfin, au bout d'un moment, entre tous les films qui sortent dans le monde au fil des années, il est normal que l'innovation, dans le sens "totalement inédit", finisse par se tasser. Pour autant l'innovation, dans le sens "développement", n'a pas cessé. Je pense d'ailleurs qu'on s'y est sans doute bien trop habitué pour la voir. Aussi, c'est assez réducteur de penser que l'informatique ne peut être artistique... Bref, je pense qu'on peut être d'accord au moins sur le fait que nous n'avons pas les mêmes visions des choses.
Mais soyez soulagé, il est prévu que le film soit tourné en Chine et en Nouvelle-Zélande.
D'ailleurs voici le synopsis officiel :
"Mulan is the epic adventure of a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. En tout cas, on peut observer un sacré changement dans la communication, les deux derniers films "Mulan" et "Jungle Cruse" sont décidément bien moins "caché" que les précédents films de la firme, où rien de devait fuiter.
Ce qui est presque paradoxal, c'est que le film va être bien différent du WDAS 1998, mais les premières images dévoilées font vraiment écho à cette version. Sur cette dernière, on s'attend presque à entendre l'homme s'écrier "Ah! quelque chose m'a mordu!" et voir Mushu apparaître "quel mauvais gout ce troufion".
Attention, s'il n'est pas trop tard, il semble qu'il faille une carte de fidélité pour accéder aux "activités":

Bill (Condon, le réalisateur) était censé venir l'après-midi, comme il le fais tous les jours, pour vérifier comment les choses se passaient avec le numéro "Gaston", ce que Anthony Van Laast (le chorégraphe, génie) mijotait pour le film . Mais avant, Luke et Josh avaient suggéré que nous devrions tous faire une surprise pour Bill, qui adore les comédies musicales. Et en plaisantant, chantez autre chose ... Here's a little BTS shot of the practical effect suit that trialled for #beautyandthebeast before switching to VFX. It was so much fun to be walking around as the actual beast, it was a real dream come true. Although being over 7ft made navigating doors quite the challenge! And let's not even discuss goes difficult it was to go to the bathroom!! Car en général les cheveux des hommes LE n'étant pas en plastique, s'ils sortent une LE Bete avec une vrai fourrure, ca promet d'etre superbe! (a moins que ce soit une version Adam, où je serait un peu déçu...)
Le set Platinum doit être trop beau aussi! Soit il nous font la scène du bal, soit on aura une tenue de mariage réinventé, mais ce couple est indivisible donc pour une fois le set prend vraiment son sens.
