To celebrate the Year of the Dragon (2024), I was asked to #animate Mushu for the first time in over 25 years! I will share that post in a couple of weeks. Elle a révélé au New York Times (lien : How That Surprise ‘Mulan’ Cameo Happened) qu'à l'origine elle était prévue pour être présente en tant que future belle-mère potentielle durant la scène avec la marieuse. Mais l'emploi du temps de l'actrice, avec le tournage des Agents du SHIELD, ne lui permettait pas d'être absente un mois pour le tournage en Nouvelle-Zélande. Il fut alors décidé par la suite qu'elle ne fasse qu'une courte apparition pour présenter Mulan, qui ne nécessitait sa présence que pour une semaine : "J'ai trouvé que c'était très approprié et tout simplement merveilleux, un petit clin d’œil surprise où je pourrais passer le relais. Et cette fois, ils n'avaient besoin de moi que pendant une semaine. Alors tout a fonctionné!". La réalisatrice Niki Caro a également souhaité que son apparence rappelle celle de Mulan dans le film d'animation.

@bina_daigeler_costumedesign blew my mind with all the elaborate and breath-taking costumes she designed for @Mulan. She is an incredible talent! Her costume workshop was like a museum. Her attention to details, along with the craftsmanship and artistry of her crew were unbelieveably exquisite and Oscar worthy! So grateful I got to meet and work with her!
Side note: Seriously, how did women do ANYTHING in this? ️

Avec tout ses bandes annonces, teaser, trailer, extraits vidéos qui diffusés depuis le mois de Mars, on aura vu le film avant de le voir.
Tiens je me disais justement qu'on n'avait pas encore vu ce genre de commentaires Ce sont les promo habituelles de Disney (sachant que beaucoup sont de simples ressorties et réactualisations de la promotion pour la sortie d'origine au cinéma), et rien ne vous force à regarder si vous craigniez de trop en voir
Petite anecdote de tournage dévoilé par la réalisatrice Niki Caro : le premier jour de tournage a commencé un jour plus tôt. Le budget et le calendrier (74 jours) ne laissait pas le temps de tourner des images de Mulan se préparant pour la marieuse, au grand dam de la réalisatrice. Mais la 1ère assistante réalisateur Liz Tan a réussi à permettre à à Niki Caro et Mandy Walker, directrice de la photographie, de tourner lors du dernier jour de préparation.

It gives us an opportunity to see the characters for the first time, on film, in hair, makeup and costume. Generally it involves actors walking to and from the camera, but I like to encourage them to be in character and to enjoy the experience. This is a little clip we cut together to show the studio. We needed stairs - the more dramatic the better - for a couple of essential moments in the movie. We found them Hengdien, in Zhejiang province. Dans une interview pour CNBC (lien : Watch CNBC's full interview with Disney CEO Bob Chapek), Bob Chapek a confirmé la date de sortie de Mulan en juillet : "Nous sommes des optimistes chez Disney. Et je pense que c’est une très bonne date de sortie pour ce film". Pour autant, il n'exclu pas de reporter une nouvelle fois le film suivant l'évolution de la situation.

/ Il est difficile de surestimer l’importance de la conception de costumes dans un film de cette envergure et de cette portée. La costumière Bina Daigeler @bina_daigeler_costumedesign a commencé avec le costume le plus complexe de Mulan. Ce costume devait déguiser Mulan en homme, puis la révéler en tant que femme. Il fallait l'emmener à la guerre (armure), mais aussi avancer avec elle à travers des chorégraphies d'action basée sur les arts martiaux. Bina a abordé le design avec son intuition et sa logique, son art et sa créativité abondants. Les plans des combats de Mulan sont certains de mes préférés dans le film. Je vois un guerrier intrépide, mais je vois aussi une vraie femme. J'adore la façon dont le design de Bina révèle la force du corps féminin. J'adore comment il bouge avec Yifei - à la fois dur et flexible. Je pense que Bina a créé quelque chose de vraiment emblématique, et l'un de mes rêves les plus chers est de voir un jour toute une tribu de petits guerriers Mulan à Halloween.

Entendre Christina Aguilera avec les images de Mulan dans le Special Look “Loyal Brave True” me provoque directement un effet nostalgique, alors que ce ne sont ni les mêmes chanson ou visuel. Reprendre la chanteuse du film d’animation n'est pas sans rappeler ce qui a déjà été fait avec Céline Dion pour La Belle et la Bête. Ils sont quand même bien malins chez Disney
Je me demande si les chansons Loyal Brave True et la nouvelle version de Reflection ne seront présentes qu'au générique, ou si elles seront même carrément dans le film d'une certaine manière.

Pour ce qui est de Mushu, ce n'est très certainement qu'une énième légende d'Internet. Si Jeffrey Katzenberg possède bien les droits, comment expliquer en effet que Mushu est toujours présent dans les parcs Disney, et a pu apparaître dans pleins de produits dérivés, jeux comme Kingdom Hearts ou même simplement dans Mulan 2 sorti bien après? Je pense que cette rumeur trouve l'une de ses sources dans le fait que Eddie Murphy (la voix originale) n'avait pas pu reprendre son role de Mushu pour Mulan 2 a cause d'une clause dans son contrat pour Shrek 2 (où il fait la voix de l’Âne), et fut remplacé par Mark Moseley. De plus, les frères Bancroft seraient sans doute au courant si tel était le cas.
L'absence dans ce remake a en revanche beaucoup de sens. Déjà, le personnage de Mushu n'est pas pas très apprécié par les chinois, le personnage, très comique, étant un dragon, l'un des symboles importants de Chine. Pour ne rien améliorer, le nom du personnage est inspiré du moo shu pork, un plat avec du cochon de la culture asiatique d'Amérique. Niveau classe, il y a mieux. Cette nouvelle version de Mulan cherchant à séduire le marché asiatique, il est cohérent de faire en sorte que le film leur plaise (ce qui se voit rien qu'avec le style du film dans le premier teaser) et donc gommer certains éléments un peu plus sensibles.
La différence ? L'innovation. Au début du siècle dernier, ces procédés relevaient du génie pour créer un film et son ambiance parce que les contraintes étaient plus grande le mérite était extrême a réussir des techniques aussi difficiles et parfois inédite pour certains films. Nous sommes en 2018 a une époque ou le fond vert est de plus en plus utilisé, démocratisé depuis 20 ans et aussi de plus en plus décrié paradoxalement selon le film. Oui c'est un matériel dont il ne faut pas abuser et qu'il faut utiliser avec soin et pas juste un système acquis du cinéma qui fonctionne irréprochablement a tout les coups. C'est un outil informatique, pas une trouvaille artistique
Enfin, au bout d'un moment, entre tous les films qui sortent dans le monde au fil des années, il est normal que l'innovation, dans le sens "totalement inédit", finisse par se tasser. Pour autant l'innovation, dans le sens "développement", n'a pas cessé. Je pense d'ailleurs qu'on s'y est sans doute bien trop habitué pour la voir. Aussi, c'est assez réducteur de penser que l'informatique ne peut être artistique... Bref, je pense qu'on peut être d'accord au moins sur le fait que nous n'avons pas les mêmes visions des choses.
Mais soyez soulagé, il est prévu que le film soit tourné en Chine et en Nouvelle-Zélande.
D'ailleurs voici le synopsis officiel :
"Mulan is the epic adventure of a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China’s greatest warriors ever."

En tout cas, on peut observer un sacré changement dans la communication, les deux derniers films "Mulan" et "Jungle Cruse" sont décidément bien moins "caché" que les précédents films de la firme, où rien de devait fuiter.
Ce qui est presque paradoxal, c'est que le film va être bien différent du WDAS 1998, mais les premières images dévoilées font vraiment écho à cette version. Sur cette dernière, on s'attend presque à entendre l'homme s'écrier "Ah! quelque chose m'a mordu!" et voir Mushu apparaître "quel mauvais gout ce troufion".
