The Hulu Original follows three strangers, played by Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, who share an obsession with true crime and quickly find themselves caught in one of their own. When a grisly death occurs inside their fancy Upper West Side apartment building, the trio suspects murder and uses their precise knowledge of true crime to investigate the mystery. As they record a true crime podcast of their own to document the case, they unravel the complex secrets of the building, which stretch back years. Perhaps even more revelatory are the lies they tell one another. Eventually, the trio realizes a killer might be living among them, and they must race to decipher the accumulating clues… before it’s too late!

“This is one of the most unusual things I’ve ever done, because it actually has a plot,” jokes Martin, a self-admitted true crime junkie. “I usually don’t do things with plots.” In truth, he says, “I decided, with the director, that it was very important to play it straight. Otherwise, it wouldn’t look real. But the strange thing is I played it straight—and it looks like a spoof!”



Short says each actor brings “a different energy” to the series. “I tend to play it very real, Steve goes way over the top and Selena grounds everything in this kind of dry, hilarious delivery. The combination, I think, is perfect.” Gomez says she was initially “very nervous” to share the screen with comedy legends Martin and Short, whom she now calls her “two crazy uncles.” What she learned from them, she adds, was invaluable. “How they lead a set is so commendable. They are so humble, they are kind, and they are there till the very end. They’ve set such an example for me,” she says. “They’ve been doing this longer than I’ve been alive. I would be so lucky to have a career that lasted that long. Overall, I just love the way they talk to people. I love the way they come to set and make everybody feel good. That makes me want to do that more. Plus, I’m so lucky. I just sit down and laugh all day.”

Only Murders in the Building is another winning collaboration between Martin and Short, who won over audiences through films such as Father of the Bride and various comedy tours. “Steve’s agenda is to make the set loose and happy, because that’s the playground,” Short says. “He is never temperamental. He always knows his lines—and if he doesn’t, he makes a joke about it that gets everyone laughing, and then it becomes a better take. And that’s the way it’s been since Three Amigos.” Echoing Short, Martin adds, “We just get along on a humorous level. We always have. We don’t get too neurotic with each other.”



Only Murders in the Building also marks Gomez’s return to television after starring in Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place from 2007-2012. “The sophistication level of the material is the reason why I wanted to do this,” she says. “Back then, I was just a kid, and I didn’t know what I was doing. I was just running around the set. Now, I’m just like a sponge and I soak up all the wisdom that I can. It’s really nice to be back on TV, and it’s nice to be cast as someone my own age—which never happens. I’m just very happy to be doing this.”

J'attendais avec impatiente de voir la série et je dois dire que je ne suis pas du tout déçue. Je n'ai vu que le premier épisode pour le moment, mais j'ai tout de suite accroché à l'intrigue et surtout à notre trio d'enquêteurs amateurs. Je me retrouve par bribes dans chacun d'entre eux et je dois dire qu'il est assez amusant de les voir interagir les uns avec les autres. Le soin apporté à leur personnalité respective est excellent et plus l'épisode avance et plus on va de surprise en surprise les concernant. La série mélange drame et humour sur fond d'enquête à la façon d'un Mickey Détective ou une partie de Cluedo et je dois dire qu'on se prend facilement au jeu. J'aime beaucoup les émissions concernant les faits divers et le true crime, que ce soit à la télévision avec une émission culte comme Faites entrer l'accusé ou sur internet avec les vidéos de la youtubeuse Victoria Charlton et voir que les personnages se passionnent eux aussi pour un tel univers est un réel plus.
En ce qui concerne l'enquête en elle-même pour le moment, je ne sais pas trop quoi en penser, nous n'avons pas assez d'éléments et les mystères entourant la victime comme sa supposée soeur incarnée par Selena Gomez intrigue. Je me demande ou les scénaristes vont nous mener et qu'elle sera la révélation finale. Le casting est très bon, ce qui est peu étonnant quand on voit le trio de tête. Il y a une réelle alchimie entre eux et plusieurs échanges de leurs personnages font bien rires. C'est fluide et cela fonctionne. Le premier épisode pose des bases solides. J'ai hâte de voir la suite.

Je suis tombé littéralement amoureux de cette série !!! J'ai adoré de bout en bout, tout était génial à commencer par le casting, tous les acteurs sans exception étaient bon et notamment les 3 personnages principaux, au top ! L'histoire et la manière dont elle est présentée était super intéressante, il n'y avait pas forcément de tensions mais c'était un plaisir à suivre.

Et mon gros coup de cœur dans cette série, ce sont les musiques, que ce soit le thème principal, ou bien même simplement les petites notes au piano pour accompagner le récit, l'ambiance musicale de cette série est juste un plaisir absolu !!!

Bref un bon 5/5 bien mérité !!

I’m catching up by phone with Gomez, who is on the set of Season 2 of “Only Murders in the Building,” her hit Hulu series with Steve Martin and Martin Short. (Check out the exclusive selfie that Gomez sent me above!) The three play neighbors who try to solve a murder in their Upper West Side apartment building. “It’s cool because personally in my life, since I started Season 1 to doing Season 2, I changed so much,” Gomez says. “I know that it’s a small amount of time, but I think it kind of carried on into [her character] Mabel. If anything, there’s just more of a sophistication to her. Her style gets better. She’s like super cool. I cut my hair. So it’s a whole fresh start for Mabel.”

Gomez says series co-creator John Hoffman started mapping ideas out for Season 2 toward the end of filming the first season, which wrapped with Mabel leaning over another dead body before being arrested along with Charles (Martin) and Oliver (Short). “Another season was casually thrown around but then John started spewing these ideas out and sure enough they have come into fruition,” Gomez says. “When I was reading it, I was really really shocked because this is so different but it’s what makes the show so great. They did such a great job creating another story.”

Très agréablement surpris par cette série.

Je m'attendais à quelque chose de très enfantin mais que nenni.

Trio très original dont les membres de complètent assez bien tout en étant attachant séparément.

La saison 2 sera diffusée sur Hulu à partir du 28 juin 2022 :

Série regardée cet hiver et je l'ai trouvé vraiment sympa. C'est plutôt bien écrit et j'ai apprécié le mélange de suspens et d'humour.

Je suis super content que la saison 2 sorte aussi vite j'ai vraiment très très hâte

Moins de sept semaines avant le début de la diffusion de la saison 2, la promotion se met en route avec des articles dans de multiples magazines et une série de photos promotionnelles.

Though Hulu has yet to confirm a third season, showrunner John Hoffman did manage to leave us with hope: “The emotional stories for our three main characters—that is our true connective tissue, in a world where a mystery television series tends to delve not so deeply a lot of times...The world just keeps opening up. I think it’s because of the number of apartments you can have in a building.”

Contente de lire que la saison 2 arrive bientôt, cette série c'est ma madeleine de Proust, je suis sur un petit nuage à chaque épisode. Drôle touchant, décalé, du whodunit intelligent et modernisé.

Trop hâte également de découvrir cette nouvelle saison!

Bon la bande annonce était sympathique sans plus, mais j'ai tellement adoré la saison 1 que j'attend cette saison 2 avec impatience !!!! plus qu'un mois à attendre j'ai hâte de découvrir ce qui va arriver à nos 3 détectives en herbe

J'ai vraiment adorer la saison 1, j'ai hâte de voir la saison 2. Plus que quelques jours

Pas mal le début de cette seconde saison. Et au moins, avec une diffusion d'un épisode par semaine (bon 2 pour le lancement), ça évite le bingwatching. En tous cas, surpris de retrouver ces deux nouvelles VIP dès le début.
