[Disneyland Park] Alice in Wonderland

On apprend par MiceAge que l'attraction a été fermé depuis le 16 juillet dernier par Cal/OSHA (California Occupational Safety and Health Administration) parce que Disney, malgré les demandes répétées de cette administration, n'a toujours pas installé de garde-corps le long du parcours situé en extérieur. L'attraction, ouverte en 1958, n'a jamais connu de sérieux problèmes de sécurité...

Alice in Blunderland: Safety Shutdown!

Alice in Wonderland was suddenly shut down by Cal OSHA this past week. What's the real reason? Al Lutz explains the issue:

"The rumors are true, and Alice in Wonderland has been shut down by Cal/OSHA. They finally called the park's bluff of working with Imagineering for years now to retrofit a hand railing system on to the outdoor vine portion of the track. None of the previous design proposals were liked by either the Imagineers or Disneyland's operations groups, in a joint attempt to try and maintain the aesthetics of this unique indoor/outdoor dark ride and Disneyland exclusive from 1958. But Cal/OSHA has no use for aesthetics or history, and they finally got tired of waiting for the park to do something about this blatant code violation. The ride has been shut down indefinitely while TDA scrambles to approve a plan to retrofit handrails on to the exterior ride track, and this unplanned closure will likely be measured in months"

Safe without a railing? OSHA doesn't think so.

The park promises a quick resolution with safety railings being installed soon. But a suitable aesthetic solution may take a while longer to figure out.

The big news at Disneyland this week was the unexpected closure of the Alice in Wonderland dark ride.


Reports came in that Cal/OSHA had shut down the Alice in Wonderland attraction when inspectors deemed the elevated outdoor portion of the track unsafe. Cal/OSHA and Disneyland denied the reports, but the news spread. Disney eventually spilled details on their version of the story, saying the closure was voluntary after a Cal/OSHA representative pointed out the issue during a visit to the park on an unrelated matter.

Regardless of how the closure came to be, the attraction is now shuttered for at least a few weeks, according to Disney. Hopefully a solution can be found that doesn't mess up the aesthetics of this unique-to-Disneyland ride that opened in 1958.

C'est vraiment dommage pour le parc de fermer d'un coup une si belle et culte attraction du parc originel, surtout qu'il n'y a jamais eu d'accident et il y a quand même des protections rien que dans le véhicule avec les barres et la fermeture d'un côté.

c'est vrai qu'au vu des photos, cette attraction a l'air splendide ! Mais la fermeture semble être de courte dure non ? c'est un mal pour un bien - peut être en tout cas -

J'ai essayé de trouver sur internet une date de réouverture d'Alice in Wonderland, mais je n'ai rien trouvé. Est-ce que quelqu'un a-t-il eu plus de chance que moi ? Je serai à Disneyland à partir du 20 septembre et j'aimerai beaucoup faire cette merveilleuse attraction.

Dans l'article ils disent quelques semaines, donc je suppose que d'ici le 20 septembre, soit six semaines elle sera de retour.

Malheureusement Alice in Wonderland figure dans la liste des attractions "under refurbishment". Je garde toute fois, espoir que les travaux avancent et que l'attraction réouvre très vite.

ALICE IN SAFETYLAND

Disneyland's Alice in Wonderland ride is still closed while safety handrails are installed on the ride's elevated outdoor portion of track. The new handrails look pretty generic with Alice-style leaf cutouts attached.


Hopefully this is just a quick fix until something more appropriate can be installed.

Merci Thaddeus pour l'info. J'espère que DL va avoir le feu vert des inspecteurs. En revanche, je ne savais pas qu'il s'agissait d'un mise en conformité "temporaire" et que l'attraction sera rehab l'anné prochaine. Je continue toujours de croiser les doigts...

But this is all temporary so the attraction can keep running until the long term solution can be designed and built.


Under normal circumstances, the ride might have been kept closed until the final fix could be made. But with Star Tours closed and several attractions slated for Fall refurbishments and overlays, Alice was needed to enhance ride capacity in the park. Never fear Alice lovers, the temporary scaffolding and railings is just that, TEMPORARY!

Moi je préfère qu'ils installent ça pour l'instant, et qu'ils prennent maintenant le temps d'y réfléchir pour pas faire quelque chose de moche plutôt que l'attraction prenne la poussière dans son coin, ou encore qu'ils installent de nouvelles structures tout aussi moches mais en dur.

Mouais, c'est provisoire ce n'est pas très grave. A Paris il aurait était capable de faire pire et de le garder toute l'année en plus ^^

Disneyland's classic Alice in Wonderland ride reopened over the weekend with the new temporary safety barrier installed to help keep maintenance workers and ride operators safe from falling off the ride's elevated outdoor section.

The ride's new look is significantly less charming than before and the new tarp-covered safety scaffolding looks painfully temporary, no matter how much effort went into the Wonderland-themed design on the tarps and the oversized leaves lining the edge of the new scaffolding.

Ouah, j'adore.

C'est tellement rare de voir des employés Disney ne pas pratiquer la langue de bois, et d'autant plus sur le parc avec les guests.

Finalement, WDI a un projet conciliant esthétique et sécurité concernant cette attraction. Travaux prévus pour début 2012 au plus tôt.

Before we dive into all the DCA news, we do have one item about Disneyland that should put a smile on more than just a Cheshire Cat.

Finally WDI has cooked up an aesthetically pleasing plan to make the outdoor portions of the Alice In Wonderland track more suitable to the safety police. However, the ongoing and extended rehabs at the Matterhorn through next June don't make it easy to slot that Alice rehab in to the park's rehab schedule without creating a big dead zone right in the middle of the park with both of those neighboring attractions closed down.


Depending on what else needs to close for rehab this winter, they'll bite the bullet and close both rides at the same time in January/February, or wait to close Alice until later in 2012 after the Matterhorn has returned to service.
