- I got a little emotional this morning when I saw the new @disneystudios teaser trailer for the live action Mulan. It brought me back to China and years of research into the legend of Mulan, a woman who changed my life in all the best ways. If this trailer is any indication, I love the direction @nikicaro is taking this new Mulan. It is reminiscent of the animated original but it looks wholly unique. Not a remake but a re-vision of the strong female hero the world met over 20 years ago. Being a father of 3 strong and loving daughters, I am proud that Mulan could be their Disney “Princess”. The legend of Mulan is bigger than any one film and her strength and love for her family and country deserve to be told in many different ways. No songs? No Mushu? No Shang? Whatever! I just love seeing China’s favorite daughter alive in a story masterfully told. It looks like she will bring honor to us all...again.

Pour ce qui est de Mushu, ce n'est très certainement qu'une énième légende d'Internet. Si Jeffrey Katzenberg possède bien les droits, comment expliquer en effet que Mushu est toujours présent dans les parcs Disney, et a pu apparaître dans pleins de produits dérivés, jeux comme
Kingdom Hearts ou même simplement dans
Mulan 2 sorti bien après? Je pense que cette rumeur trouve l'une de ses sources dans le fait que Eddie Murphy (la voix originale) n'avait pas pu reprendre son role de Mushu pour
Mulan 2 a cause d'une clause dans son contrat pour
Shrek 2 (où il fait la voix de l’Âne), et fut remplacé par Mark Moseley. De plus, les frères Bancroft seraient sans doute au courant si tel était le cas.
L'absence dans ce remake a en revanche beaucoup de sens. Déjà, le personnage de Mushu n'est pas pas très apprécié par les chinois, le personnage, très comique, étant un dragon, l'un des symboles importants de Chine. Pour ne rien améliorer, le nom du personnage est inspiré du moo shu pork, un plat avec du cochon de la culture asiatique d'Amérique. Niveau classe, il y a mieux.
Cette nouvelle version de
Mulan cherchant à séduire le marché asiatique, il est cohérent de faire en sorte que le film leur plaise (ce qui se voit rien qu'avec le style du film dans le premier teaser) et donc gommer certains éléments un peu plus sensibles.
