- The Hollywood Reporter a écrit:
The actress worked with star Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy in 'The Adam Project.'
Jennifer Garner is picking up Elektra’s sai once again.
After a nearly 20-year hiatus, the actress is returning to the role of Marvel Comics’ assassin antiheroine for Deadpool 3, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
The Marvel Studios production is currently shooting, with Ryan Reynolds reprising his fan-favorite part of the fourth wall-breaking Merc with a Mouth. Hugh Jackman has come out of Marvel retirement to play Wolverine once again.
Shawn Levy is in the director’s chair with the project to be the first movie that will feature a character, or in this case, two or three or more, from the stable that once belonged to 20th Century Fox. Fox owned several silos of Marvel’s characters before its acquisition by Disney in 2019 brought the movie rights to the characters back into Marvel proper.
Garner first played the Marvel assassin in 20th Century Fox’s Daredevil, the 2003 feature that starred Ben Affleck as the Man Without Fear. While the film was not a hit, it did spawn a spinoff, with Garner toplining solo act Elektra two years later. That too, was not a box office success, but it was noteworthy as Garner was one of the few women to lead a studio comic book movie at the time.
Her involvement in Deadpool 3 hints at some sort of multiverse angle to the film that has long been rumored, and it is possible that other characters from Marvel films made by Fox could pop up. But this being Deadpool, one can’t rule out some meta, self-awareness either.
Marvel could not be reached for comment.
Jennifer Garner in Elektra 20TH CENTURY FOX FILM CORP/EVERETT COLLECTION When she first played Elektra, Garner was in the middle of her starring turn as secret agent Sydney Bristow in ABC’s thriller Alias, which ran over 105 episodes from 2001 to 2006. Her recent movies include the 2021 Netflix hit Yes Day and a poignant appearance opposite Reynolds in sci-fi adventure The Adam Project, which Levy directed.
She also appeared on the recent Party Down reboot and starred in and executive produced Apple TV+’s limited series The Last Thing He Told Me, which debuted in April. Garner is repped by CAA, Linden Entertainment, and Jason Sloane and Harris Hartman of Sloane Offer.
Producing Deadpool 3 are Marvel’s Kevin Feige, Levy and Reynolds. The script is by Reynolds, Levy, Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese and Zeb Wells. |

- Entertainment Weekly a écrit:
"I don't know if this is our last shot at Wolverine on screen, so I was going to make goddamned sure we get the old yellow and blue just once, and that we get it right," Shawn Levy tells EW.
As if you'd want anyone else working to bring one of the most anticipated superhero movies to life, Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy tells EW a legion or nerds (said with affection) helped him develop Hugh Jackman's comic-accurate Wolverine suit for the upcoming blockbuster.
"Like the rest of the world, I've waited two decades to see Wolverine in a whole movie with Deadpool, and I don't know if this is our last shot at Wolverine on screen, so I was going to make goddamned sure we get the old yellow and blue just once, and that we get it right," Levy tells EW at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, in an interview for his upcoming Netflix series based on the novel All the Light We Cannot See.
Photos from the set of the film leaked earlier this year, teasing Jackman's return as the famous comic book character alongside Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool. The Australian actor first played Wolverine in the 2000 superhero smash X-Men, and appeared in several series installments through to 2017's Logan. He's set to reprise the character in the third Deadpool film, this time wearing a suit reminiscent of the one worn in the comics and the X-Men animated series from the '90s.
Levy explains that he and his team went through "multiple, multiple, multiple iterations and fittings" to make sure the suit was correct. "It also helps that I'm making this movie within the MCU, so I have access to an army of the nerdiest nerds available to a Marvel project," he continues.
He also says that he and Reynolds "wanted our movie to be grounded and not feel like a bunch of physical environments filmed on a soundstage," leading them to shoot large portions of the movie on location, which is, he says, how photos of Jackman's role leaked in the first place. "Fortunately," he adds, "it seems global reaction to those costumes has been overwhelmingly positive, so all's well that ends well."
Other casting rumors for the project have included Jennifer Garner returning as Elektra — the heroine she last portrayed in the 2005 Daredevil spin-off Elektra — as well as Liev Schreiber in the role of Sabretooth from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
"I'd rather not weigh in on that, but I'll say this," Levy teases. "The rumors of actors, singers, sports stars who are all apparently in Deadpool 3 are fabulous. If all I read was the internet, I would have the greatest cast ever assembled in the history of cinema, so I'll simply say that some of those rumors are true, and some of them aren't."
Deadpool 3 — with Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Emma Corrin, and Rob Delaney also among the confirmed cast — is set for release in 2024. |

- Deadline a écrit:
EXCLUSIVE: In one of the first major blows to the 2024 theatrical release schedule due to the ongoing actors strike, sources tell us that Marvel Studios‘ Deadpool 3 won’t be making its May 3 start-of-summer theatrical release date. Even if the strike ends in the next few weeks, a 2024 restart on the half-finished Deadpool 3 would not get the Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman threequel to a May opening date.
There’s just too much to do in regards to re-assembling crew, etc. Note, this is just the beginning for 2024 titles; other studios have yet to play the game of three-card monte with their most notable films that are in positions similar to Deadpool 3.
What happens to the start of the summer now?
There is a long shot, per sources, that Captain America: Brave New World, which originally was set for May 3 and then was pushed to July 26, actually moves back because it’s in better shape than Deadpool 3, having finished production.
Disney typically holds on to highly coveted release dates, therefore if Deadpool 3 doesn’t go to July 26, there are other options like early November, which has been rich to Marvel with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ($859.2M WW) and Thor: Ragnarok ($855.3M WW), or December 20, which is where Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts is dated. As Deadline first reported, Marvel paused start of production on Thunderbolts back in May due to the onset of the WGA strike.
The previous two Deadpools were released under 20th Century Fox, and the third film is the first hatched post-merger under the Kevin Feige-run Disney-owned Marvel Studios. The Deadpool franchise stands at $1.56 billion WW and broke ground for R-rated Marvel movies with mass audiences.
“I wasn’t going to mess with the DNA of that franchise,” Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy told Deadline at TIFF about his approach to the threequel. The filmmaker is the third to take on the Merc with a Mouth after Tim Miller and David Leitch.
“Our movie is raw, audacious, very much R-rated, and we went to great lengths to not shoot it on soundstages with digital environments,” Levy teased.
“We wanted something that felt, grounded, real. … You put Hugh Jackman in his most iconic character alongside Ryan Reynolds in his most iconic character; it’s more of a descendant of Midnight Run and 48 Hours and Planes, Trains and Automobiles more than it’s a descendant of Airplane!”
While certain prolific movies such as Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour ($92.8M opening), The Nun II ($32.6M) and The Equalizer 3 ($34.6M) didn’t see their openings greatly impacted by the actors strike, distribution sources believe the fact that thespians can’t promote their films has diluted ticket sales. Several notable movies did not perform up to snuff, i.e. The Creator, A Haunting in Venice and Dumb Money, to name a few.
As Deadline reported earlier today, the town’s biggest stars have offered to kick in $150M in dues over three years to end stalemate between AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA.
Disney hasn’t made the Deadpool 3 move official and did not return Deadline’s request for comment. |

Colossus partage qu'il a regardé "Great British Bake Off". - The Hollywood Reporter a écrit:
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman suit up for Marvel Studios' only film of 2024.
In years past, a Disney presentation at CinemaCon would be a rather family-friendly affair. Not so this year, with the raunchy, R-rated Deadpool & Wolverine taking center stage to show off extensive footage from project.
The Disney presentation began with a “silence your phone” PSA, with Deadpool and Wolverine in costume, talking about rumors for Secret Wars, the upcoming Avengers movie. But when Deadpool tried to explain his theories for the movie, he was interrupted by a cellphone in the audience. Finally, after being interrupted several times, Wolverine lost his temper and addressed the camera with plenty of F-bombs imploring people to turn off their phones.
Later, audiences got a full-fledged look at the movie that stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the title characters and deals with the multiverse. The footage was rife with double entendres aimed at Hollywood, as well as direct references to Marvel and Disney.
“It’s fucking awesome,” Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said to the crowd. He added he could say that because it’s an R-rated film — and proceeded to say the F-word a few more times.
Shawn Levy then came out to show off nine minutes of spoiler-free scenes. The Hollywood Reporter won’t delve too deep into what was shown, but it begins with Wade Wilson as a car salesman, retired from the superhero world. (Let’s just say he makes an oblique reference to his sexual preferences while trying to sell a car to a family.) It then transitions to the birthday party shown in a Super Bowl trailer, where Wade mentions a certain Marvel exec by name and a list of things he can’t show in the movie (including doing cocaine).
Later in the footage, Wade arrives at the Time Variance Authority, as shown in the Super Bowl trailer. It’s fair to say that the nine-minute clip of Deadpool & Wolverine drew the biggest laughter of the week. Feige said the footage was crafted by Levy and Reynolds specifically for the CinemaCon audience.
Marvel Studios is betting big on Deadpool & Wolverine, which opens July 26 and hails from director Levy. After years of putting three (or even four) films out annually, the studio is dialing back and putting all its chips on this movie. It marks Marvel Studios’ first R-rated project, and also the first franchise coming over from its acquisition of 20th Century Fox. (Fantastic Four, due out next year, will be the second.)
As Wade said in the footage: “I am the messiah. I am Marvel Jesus.” |

| - Empire a écrit:
Right from the beginning (okay, maybe not X-Men Origins: Wolverine), the big-screen outings of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool have been… well, distinctly Deadpoolian affairs. In his 2016 debut feature, he made a joke about fondling Wolverine’s nether-regions before laying gory waste to a car full of goons. In 2019’s Deadpool 2, he finally assembled the long-rumoured X-Force team – before thrusting them into a skydiving mission that killed them all off instantly. Now, he’s changing things up once again for his third outing – teaming up with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine for a reality-breaking adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And despite the dual-headline status of title Deadpool & Wolverine, make no mistake – tonally, this is Deadpool through and through.
“It feels like the most Deadpool movie in the history of Deadpool,” Ryan Reynolds promises Empire in the world-exclusive Deadpool & Wolverine issue. What that means remains to be seen, although if we were to put money on it, we'd imagine that the film will contain a sprinkling of the old ultraviolence, f-bombs galore, and all kinds of meta mayhem, in the glorious Deadpool tradition — not curtailed by the character’s arrival into the Disney-owned Marvel Cinematic Universe, but instead given fresh opportunities to blow the bloody doors off. Because while the film sees Wade Wilson trying to live a quieter domestic life, he’s soon pulled into the TVA by agents working for Matthew Macfadyen’s boss Mr Paradox. There, according to Marvel boss Kevin Feige, Wade is shown the Sacred Timeline – “the most glorious place in the world” – with all its heroic allure. “Deadpool is very intrigued by that,” Feige tells Empire. But Paradox’s plan might not be what Wade expects. “He learns soon thereafter that it’s not quite as simple an offer as he thought it was,” adds Feige. “And the stakes are universe-sized.”
Cue a team-up with everyone’s favourite X-Man, for a Deadpool adventure like no other – paying off a screen partnership between Wade Wilson and Wolverine (and a personal friendship between Reynolds and Jackman) that extends all the way back to 2009. “As much as I take the ever-loving fucking piss out of him each and every day, underneath that is a genuine love story,” says Reynolds of their bond. Expect all of that camaraderie to make it on to the screen. “As adversarial as we are in the movie, the undercurrent is one of real love. Getting to spend time with my two closest friends, and waking up in the morning with a passionate devotion to say something so horrendous that they fall over laughing is a gift.” Who’s ready to unwrap it?
- Empire a écrit:
As long as there have been X-Men movies, Wolverine has generally been front and centre. While the adamantium-clawed mutant isn’t the team’s leader – nor usually central in the comics or cartoons – Hugh Jackman’s incarnation of Logan became the focal point of the original X-Men trilogy, as well as several Wolverine spin-off films (including deeply emotional send-off Logan), and timeline-hopping crossovers like Days Of Future Past. But even amid all those outings, there’s still fresh ground to be covered in Jackman’s long-awaited return to the role. Yes, he’s donning the claws again – years after thinking he was done for good – in Deadpool & Wolverine, teaming up with Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With A Mouth for a Marvel movie like no other.
And, as he tells Empire, it brought plenty of fresh opportunities with it – including getting to wear the character’s iconic yellow get-up in the flesh for the first time. “We almost did it in The Wolverine,” Jackman says. “But from the moment I put it on here, I was like, ‘How did we never do this?’ It looked so right, it felt so right. I was like, ‘That’s him.’ There are different sides of Wolverine we haven’t seen before in the movies. It was exciting for me.” Plus, in his new buddy team-up, Wolverine has plenty to offer the notorious Mr. Pool too. “It’s great for Deadpool to have someone who will punch him in the face,” Jackman laughs.
Of anyone, it was Kevin Feige who was most nervous about Jackman’s return to the role, having previously warned the actor not to renege on the gut-wrenching finale of Logan. “I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back’,” Feige recalls. “‘You had the greatest ending in history with Logan. That’s not something we should undo.’” But it seems this won’t be the exact same Logan we’ve met in previous X-Men movies (“Correct,” says Feige), and after a long drive, Jackman decided that another take on the character was exactly what he hankered for. “I was about an hour into the drive,” he remembers. “And that question came into my head: ‘What do I want to do?’ And as soon as I asked the question, I wanted to do Deadpool & Wolverine. I just knew it. I drove for another hour. Couldn’t stop thinking about it. And I got out of the car, called Ryan, and said, ‘Ryan, if you’ll have me, I’m in.’” Get ready to go berserker.

For a while there, Deadpool’s future looked uncertain. Despite his two mega-smash movies under 20th Century Fox, the Disney-Fox takeover brought up all kinds of questions about what would happen next. Was there a place for him in Kevin Feige’s MCU? Could he still be deeply R-rated under the ownership of Disney? How would he fit with plans to bring mutants into the world that Iron Man built? Thankfully, the answer became clear: Deadpool does whatever Deadpool wants. And so, we have his impending MCU arrival in Deadpool & Wolverine, teaming Ryan Reynolds’ motormouthed Wade Wilson up with Hugh Jackman’s gruff Logan for a Marvel movie like you’ve never seen before.
Not that the version arriving in cinemas this summer is entirely in line with Reynolds’ first plan for the project. As he tells Empire in the world-exclusive Deadpool & Wolverine issue, he first envisioned a “Rashomon story about Wolverine and Deadpool and something that they got into together, but told from three completely different perspectives,” he explains. “It was a way to make a large-scale movie in a very small way.” It was a pitch that Feige turned down – mainly because he was still figuring out the big-picture side of things. “The truth is, I wasn’t even sure how to incorporate Deadpool yet,” the Marvel boss admits. “I was very much thinking about how to bring mutants and the X-Men into [the MCU], and I thought it needed to be more than just playing the hits. But the truth is, Ryan is an idea machine. So he may have pitched that to me, but he also pitched 25 other thoughts and ideas.”
In their collaborative quest to find the best Deadpool (and Wolverine) story possible, Reynolds and Feige explored all kinds of avenues. “I went back to the drawing board, and I wrote up about 18 different treatments,” Reynolds recalls. “Some of them almost like a Sundance film, a budget of under $10 million, sort of using the IP in a way that they previously hadn’t used, and I pitched bigger movies, and I pitched things in-between.” Before too long, they found their way to the version hitting multiplexes in mere weeks time. “We definitely spun our wheels a little bit trying to find the reason for this movie to be,” says executive producer Wendy Jacobson. “Once Hugh raised his hand, two months later we were prepping. It was honestly one of the fastest turnarounds I've ever seen.” Who knows – maybe this one’s more of a Yojimbo take. |
