Everyone’s favorite scoundrel Lando Calrissian will return in a brand-new event series for Disney+. Justin Simien, creator of the critically-acclaimed Dear White People and a huge Star Wars fan, is developing the story.
Le projet annoncé en décembre 2020 n'est pas abandonné, mais au point mort. Kathleen Kennedy précise que Donald Glover a toutes les cartes en main et que c'est son emploi du temps fort chargé qui est la cause de cet état.

“We’re still talking about Lando with Donald Glover. You need to ask Donald. He’s the one that holds all the cards here. But there’s no movement. I will say that honestly. But it’s not for lack of trying. It’s just that he’s a very busy guy. … He’s got another series, and I think one other thing, and then he’ll come our way.”

News broke in July that Donald and Stephen Glover had been tapped by Disney and Lucasfilm to replace Justin Simien as the writers of a new “Lando” television series on Disney+. But not so fast. The project is actually being developed as a “Lando” movie, Lucasfilm confirmed to Variety.
Stephen Glover first dropped the news of a “Lando” movie on a recent appearance on the “Pablo Torre Finds Out” podcast, telling the host, “It’s not even a show…the idea right now is to do a movie. Right now, because of the strike its kinds of like telephone all of the information.” That’s all the info Stephen could provide. Lucasfilm confirmed the news afterwards.
Selon Variety, le projet Lando serait désormais un film, et non plus une série.

Donald Glover’s ‘Star Wars’ Series ‘Lando’ Is Now a Movie
News broke in July that Donald and Stephen Glover had been tapped by Disney and Lucasfilm to replace Justin Simien as the writers of a new “Lando” television series on Disney+. But not so fast. The project is actually being developed as a “Lando” movie, Lucasfilm confirmed to Variety. Glover debuted as a young Lando Calrissian in the 2017 “Star Wars” tentpole “Solo,” which was a notable box office disappointment for Disney and Lucasfilm.
While the plan for the Lando project is for it to be a movie, no developing or negotiating with the Glover brothers is taking place amid the strikes. Development will resume once the strike is resolved.

News first broke of a Lando Calrissian limited series being in the works in December 2020. At the time, “Dear White People” creator Justin Simien was attached to the project. He exited the project and was replaced by the Glover brothers, who are developing it as a movie. The character of Lando was originally played by Billy Dee Williams in “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi.”
Donald Glover revealed in a video interview with GQ magazine in April that he was talking to Lucasfilm about another Lando-centric project in the “Star Wars” universe. He said, “We’re talking about it. That’s as much as I can say without [Lucasfilm president] Kathleen Kennedy hunting me down.”
“Lando is charm incarnate,” Glover continued at the time. “He’s kind of a maverick, which I don’t think there’s a lot of anymore. It’s hard to be the smooth talker nowadays. Where’s the line? That’s also where the danger is. How close can you get without tripping over it?”
Glover added, “I would love to play Lando again. It’s a fun time, being him. It just has to be the right way to do it. Time is precious. The past couple of years, this pandemic shit, it really had people experience time… People realize their time is valuable. You only get so much. I’m not interested in doing anything that’s going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I’d much rather spend time with people that I enjoy. It just has to be the right thing, and I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I like to hang out with.”

Donald Glover Says ‘Star Wars’ Is ‘Way Too Serious’ Sometimes and Hopes a Lando Movie Brings Fun Back: ‘We Have a Responsibility to Have Enjoyment’
Donald Glover is set to return as “Star Wars” fan-favorite Lando Calrissian in a movie he’s developing for Disney and Lucasfilm alongside his brother and frequent collaborator Stephen Glover, and all Donald Glover wants to do is to bring the fun back to the “Star Wars” franchise.
“I just want it to be fun,” he recently told The Wall Street Journal during a video interview. “As a ‘Star Wars’ fan myself, I think it’s important that there needs to be fun being had.”
“It’s very hard to have fun right now,” Donald Glover continued. “It’s tough because there are very serious things happening and those are the only things that connect us, weirdly. So I get why things are serious, but part of the human experience, I believe, is we have a responsibility to have enjoyment. And I just feel like we’re lacking in that department.”
Donald Glover said that while he obviously loves the “Star Wars” franchise it “can be super serious. Sometimes it’s way too serious. Everything that has to do with the Skywalkers is like so serious. [With] Lando, I think the best part about him is he’s a scoundrel. And I feel like people can relate to that, and he’s probably like ‘man, this war is whack. I need money,’ which I feel everyone can relate to. I want to bring fun to ‘Star Wars.’ I just want it to be fun.”
The “Atlanta” Emmy winner debuted as a young Lando in the 2018 “Star Wars” tentpole “Solo,” which was a notable box office disappointment for Disney and Lucasfilm. News broke in July 2023 that the Glover brothers had been tapped to replace Justin Simien as the writers of a new “Lando” television series for Disney+, but Variety confirmed last September that the project was actually now a “Lando” movie.

Oui, c'est ce dont le gros blockbuster ricain a besoin en ce moment : plus de blagues.
