- Universal Orlando files plans for new hotel
A hotel project may be in the works at Universal Orlando Resort in the area of the new Volcano Bay water park and Loews Sapphire Falls Resort.
A permit, filed with the city of Orlando on June 7, seeks to allow the construction of a 600-room hotel with associated parking at 6731 Adventure Way. There currently is no property assigned to that address, but it traces back to an area near the 1,000-room Sapphire Falls Resort.
Universal Orlando spokesman Tom Schroder said there was "nothing to share" on the potential project, dubbed "Project 927" on the city document.
There's no clear indication whether this is a new hotel — potentially Universal's sixth on-site hotel — or if it is an addition to Sapphire Falls, which is opening this summer. However, if it is a completely different hotel, then there's a good chance it could be an upper-scale property to help provide more diversity in price and accommodations to the nearby Cabana Bay and Sapphire Falls that are more value-friendly for guests.
This also raises a question as to how the new hotel will make way for a special roadway Universal was in the plans of making that would help connect the main theme park parking garages to the Volcano Bay water park opening next year.
The potential of more hotel rooms at Universal Orlando wasn't something missed by the theme park's parent company, Comcast Corp. Hotels are a great revenue source for theme parks and encourage multi-day visits, which ensures that tourists spend more of their vacation budget at the theme park

- More details, potential name emerge for Universal Orlando's planned hotel
Universal Orlando is planning a 600-room hotel that will sit on 5.87 acres of land just south of another of its hotel properties.
The hotel, dubbed Project 927, "consists of 600 hotel rooms within one new tower connected to a new parking garage to be constructed south of Sapphire Falls Resort," said city of Orlando documents.
Most notably, topographical plans submitted to the city of Orlando include the name "Aventura Hotel at Universal."
There's no clear answer on if that's the name of the future hotel, as Universal Orlando previously told Orlando Business Journal it had "nothing to share" on the plans.
However, Universal City Studios LLC, an entity related to the Universal theme park family, filed a trademark for the name "Aventura Hotel" back in October 2015. According to Justia, a trademark database site, a "Notice of Allowance" was issued for that trademark on June 7 — the same day the city received Universal's plans.
The trademark states it is for "hotel services; resort hotel services" and that the English translation for the word "Aventura" is "Adventure," which could be Universal's tie to existing similarly named assets like Islands of Adventure.
Now it's entirely possible Universal Orlando could change the name of the hotel — if "Aventura Hotel" is actually what's currently in the mix — during the design process, but this may give insight into what the minds at the theme park giant are thinking.
This hotel would further boost a booming corner for Universal Orlando that includes the new Cabana Bay Beach Resort, the 1,000-room Sapphire Falls Resort opening this summer and the future Volcano Bay water park opening next year. It would also provide the theme park giant with even more hotel room inventory that is essential in encouraging overnight stays at the park and diversifying the park's revenue.

- Universal Orlando map supports rumored sixth hotel name
Universal Orlando Resort documents filed with Orange County gives more grounds to a rumored name for its next hotel.
A new resort site plan filed by Universal clearly identifies land just southwest of Loews Sapphire Falls Resort as the "Aventura Hotel" — the second time the name as popped up on public documents. The document was uncovered by theme park fan and Twitter user @TheNJBrandon.
The land under the new hotel is about a quarter of of the size of Sapphire Falls and would be across Adventure Way from the Cabana Bay Beach Resort.
In June, word got out that Universal Orlando had filed documents for a new 600-room hotel on about 5.87 acres of land just south of 1,000-room Sapphire Falls, which opened earlier this year.
The documents at the time labeled the hotel as the "Aventura Hotel," but there was no other mention of the name.
In addition, other documents filed by Universal say a parking garage will sit on the eastern end of the property and will connect to Sapphire Falls' parking garage.
The county documents filed this week label Aventura Hotel as the seventh on-site hotel, but there are only five existing hotels at Universal Orlando including the Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort and the new Loews Sapphire Falls Resort.
Now it's fair to say a hotel name is always subject to change until Universal Orlando officially announces it. But this continues to leave a paper trail that the Aventura name — which means adventure — may be what Universal's creative team have in mind.
