I’m excited to share a first look at the new Disney Cruise Line exhibit now open at Walt Disney Presents. In addition to a celebration of the fleet’s history, this one-of-a-kind gallery space features never-before-seen artifacts and photos from the making of the Disney Wish, our newest ship that sets sail in summer 2022.
Some of the unique items on display include :
* A life-size maquette of the Cinderella statue that will grace the Grand Hall
* An intricately detailed, 5 1/2-foot scale model of the ship
* Replicas of the Disney Animation maquettes that will adorn the dining rooms at 1923, an elegant family restaurant inspired by the golden age of Hollywood
* A scale concept model used to design the larger-than-life stern statue of Rapunzel
There are even more surprises and sneak peeks in the exhibit, but you’ll have to visit the Walt Disney Presents attraction — located in Animation Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios — to see them for yourself. Bon voyage !

Over the weekend, attendees at Destination D23 got a sneak peek at two exciting new entertainment offerings being developed for the Disney Wish. Today, we’re unveiling even more details about these original stage spectaculars — an innovative, Broadway-style take on Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “The Little Mermaid” and an embarkation day celebration helmed by Captain Minnie, Goofy and an all-star cast of Disney and Pixar characters — plus a very first look at the all-new pirate deck party coming to our newest Disney Cruise Line ship next summer.
A Treasure Retold – ‘Disney The Little Mermaid’
“Disney The Little Mermaid” will be an original Broadway-style stage adaptation of the renowned 1989 Disney Animation film developed exclusively for the Disney Wish. During this one-of-a-kind theatrical production, audiences will rediscover the iconic scenes, acclaimed music and beloved characters of “The Little Mermaid” while experiencing the story like never before.
In this modern-day retelling, the curtain will rise on an enchanted treasure chest at the moment it is discovered by a group of storytellers, led by a special young woman who has the power to unlock its magic. As they uncover the whozits and whatzits galore hidden within the trunk, the storytellers will take on the roles of Ariel, Ursula, Prince Eric, Sebastian, Flounder and more, bringing to life the immersive undersea world right before guests’ eyes. They’ll put their own contemporary spin on the timeless story of a young woman’s search for independence, love and a place in the world.
“Disney The Little Mermaid” will feature innovative theatrical design, dazzling special effects, artistic choreography, and a reimagined script and score that will surprise and delight guests of all ages.
* New orchestrations of favorite songs like “Part of Your World,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls” and “Under the Sea” will enchant audiences with moving ensemble pieces and breathtaking production numbers.
* Unexpectedly playful scenic designs and state-of-the-art video projections will transform the Walt Disney Theatre into a 360-degree undersea environment.
* Contemporary, interpretive costuming will reflect the show’s unique blending of a modern setting and a mystical, fantastical story.
* Cutting-edge puppetry will animate fantastical sea creatures and characters such as Sebastian, Flounder, Scuttle, and Flotsam and Jetsam in never-before-seen ways.
An Embarkation Celebration – ‘Disney Seas the Adventure’
On their first night aboard this enchanted ship, guests will embark on a musical voyage into some of their favorite stories during an original musical spectacular, “Disney Seas the Adventure.” When Captain Minnie hands over the helm to her dear friend Goofy, he’ll set sail into uncharted waters on a journey to discover his own inner captain. Along the way, Goofy will encounter a bevy of bold, brave and brilliant Disney and Pixar friends who encourage him to lead with his heart through rousing renditions of iconic Disney songs.
* Tiana will teach Goofy the power of hard work to make a dream come true during a lively performance of “Almost There” from Disney Animation’s “The Princess and the Frog.”
* Goofy will navigate to the big ocean blue where Crush and Squirt — the tubular turtles from Pixar’s “Finding Nemo” — show him how to “Go with the Flow” in a high-energy production of the song fans will recognize from “Finding Nemo – The Musical” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
* In an original arrangement exclusive to this show, heroines Elsa, Moana and Merida will perform a powerful medley of “Let it Go,” “How Far I’ll Go” and “Touch the Sky,” emboldening Goofy to go into the unknown.
* When Goofy loses his way and self-doubt takes hold once again, he’ll gain the courage to “Go the Distance” with the help of Hercules and a host of heroes from a variety of Disney films.
The adventure will culminate in a cavalcade of characters joining Captain Minnie and Goofy on stage during a grand farewell before leading guests out of the theater and into the Grand Hall for an unforgettable sendoff experience – the ultimate “kiss goodnight” to close guests’ first day on board.
Signature Pirate Night with a Rock-and-Roll Twist
Disney cruisers, rejoice! On one special night of every voyage, guests of all ages can don their most swashbuckling pirate garb and head to the upper decks for a rollicking rock-and-roll extravaganza unlike anything on the high seas — complete with fireworks at sea like only Disney can do — during a new take on our signature nighttime deck celebration.
Hosted by Captain Redd — a descendent of the famous red-headed rogue from the Pirates of the Caribbean theme park attractions — Pirate’s Rockin’ Parlay Party will feature live music, remarkable stunts, special effects and plenty of surprises. Throughout the party, she and her band of head-banging buccaneers will perform famous radio hits from the genre, plus a rockin’ rendition of the classic pirate tune “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me).”
When Redd assembles a fearsome council of captains, including the notorious scoundrel Captain Jack Sparrow, they’ll unlock a sparkling treasure that lights the night sky: a fantastic fireworks display underscored by an original arrangement of the sensational soundtrack from the Walt Disney Studios “Pirates in the Caribbean” films.

Imagineering the Disney Wish: Construction Updates from Germany
We reached several milestones in the construction of the Disney Wish since I last shared an update. The team and I are so excited about the progress that I wanted to celebrate it with you today. Let’s take a look at these moments together, shall we? I am thrilled to invite you behind the scenes with a time-lapse video that captures the past few months of our construction journey!
Forward Funnel Installed
In July, the huge forward funnel was installed on the top deck. Our iconic red funnels are unique to Disney Cruise Line and one of my favorite details of the Disney fleet. They are sleek and graceful, reminiscent of classic ocean liners, with the Disney Cruise Line logo visible on each side.
Aboard the Disney Wish, the aft funnel houses the main engines’ exhaust pipes, and the forward funnel offers a truly unique and new experience — the Wish Tower Suite. This 2,000-foot penthouse in the sky will provide unparalleled views of the ocean. All that is left is outfitting the space.
Last Block Mounted
In August, our team of Imagineers at the Meyer Werft shipyard completed the momentous milestone of mounting the last block on the Disney Wish. As you can imagine, this was a special moment for our team. After months of dedication and hard work, we were able to see the exterior of the ship come together. The Disney Wish is nearly complete from a construction point of view! We continue to work on the interior outfitting, cabin installations and ship commissioning.
Stern Filigree Completed
Lastly, we have the completion of the “stern filigree.” The stern filigree proudly carries the name of the ship: Disney Wish. This is a preview of what is to come for the bow filigree, so stay tuned for future updates.

Not only does each milestone signify another step toward launching our newest ship next summer, but it also represents the incredible team who made each milestone possible. Imagineering the Disney Wish: Construction Updates from Germany
Hello, Claire here! I am coming to you from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, where the Disney Wish is being constructed. As one of the Imagineers leading the creative direction for Walt Disney Imagineering Germany, I oversee design efforts for numerous interior spaces on board the Disney Wish. It has been a dream come true sprinkling pixie dust all throughout the staterooms.
Your stateroom is truly your home at sea — it is peaceful, calming, functional and infused with enchanting details that make it uniquely Disney. The story of how the staterooms came to find their home on the Disney Wish is nearly as magical as the end result!
Have you ever wanted to go behind the scenes to see how we Imagineers bring the magic to life? I am thrilled to give you the 411 on stateroom construction.
The design process begins with collaboration. We spent years working with designers and artists to examine every detail; carefully considering how color, light and shapes interact to ensure the environment we create is both restful and magical. Since the majority of the finished pieces for the Disney Wish were fabricated offsite, our team built hundreds of mockups prior to final construction in order to visualize how everything is coming together. It is all about the attention to detail!
Once the design is finalized, we hit “full steam ahead” on the production line! The 1,254 staterooms are manufactured on an assembly line, where each piece is carefully installed on a conveyor belt. That includes everything from furniture and walls to artwork and lighting.
The final magic touch is when the staterooms are placed on the ship. That’s right – a crane lifts each one and places it on the Disney Wish.
Staterooms are the perfect blend of what Imagineering does best: artistry and technical perfection. It is a priority for every aspect of our design to be both narratively beautiful and highly functional to provide you with the best experience! Everything we do is with our guests in mind.
When the Disney Wish sets sail next June and you are finally at rest after a day of adventure and enchantment, I hope you can feel just a little more magic knowing each piece was carefully designed to bring Disney stories to life.
I’ll give you a hint of what is to come. I may not have magical hair that glows when I sing, but I enjoy exploring creativity through art just like Rapunzel, who is also the Disney Wish stern character. The team and I look forward to sharing stern character updates with you in the new year!

The Newest Disney Cruise Ship is Officially Afloa t!
Last Friday, the world got a first look at the newest Disney Cruise Line ship when our beautiful Disney Wish completed a major milestone known as “float out.”
During this momentous event, the Disney Wish touched water for the very first time, then made a grand exit from the enclosed building dock where it has been constructed. And to say this was a wish come true for our teams at Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Cruise Line would be an understatement. We celebrated the occasion in true Disney style with fireworks, music and even a special appearance by Captain Minnie Mouse herself … and today, I am so excited to share this special moment with you, too! Check out the video below to see the incredible “float out” of the Disney Wish :
Amazing, right? It actually took about five hours to flood the building dock, followed by a breathtaking 90-minute exit as the Disney Wish sailed out with only 3 feet of clearance on either side. Not only was this the debut of the completed exterior, but it was also the grand reveal of its signature stern character statue—at last, Rapunzel saw the light! —and the first Disney attraction at sea, AquaMouse, towering over the upper decks.
The ship will remain alongside the pier for several weeks before its next important milestone, when it will be conveyed stern-first down the River Ems to the port of Eemshaven, Netherlands. In the meantime, we will continue construction and interior outfitting to bring all the amazing new experiences aboard this enchanted ship to life.

“Under the Sea” will be the show’s biggest production number, complete with incredible vocals, show-stopping choreography and plenty of special effects. Here, the show’s cutting-edge puppetry will be on the greatest display, as countless sea creatures and fantastical characters like Sebastian and Flounder gather on stage to sing, dance and celebrate.
Throughout the show, playful scenic designs and state-of-the-art video projections will transform the Walt Disney Theatre into a 360-degree undersea environment. During “Kiss the Girl,” Sebastian will lead a chorus of sea life in a refreshed rendition of the melody as the audience is visually transported into the scene. In a new twist exclusive to our show, even though Ariel doesn’t have a voice at this point in the story, her inner voice will play an important and meaningful role in the song.

This magical experience provides pixie-dusted makeovers for kids ages 3 to 12, complete with hairstyling, makeup, costumes and accessories — it is truly beloved by Disney Cruise Line guests.
The team at Walt Disney Imagineering has created a storybook salon for our newest ship, which sets sail this summer. The venue will feature beautiful wood detailing, chandeliers with candle lights and design elements inspired by Cinderella. There will also be a mural featuring a majestic wooded landscape and Cinderella Castle sparkling in the distance – perfect to capture photos of each precious moment.
In addition to the guest-favorite princess, pirate and knight transformations already available, the Disney Wish will offer a selection of brand-new looks coming soon to the entire Disney Cruise Line fleet!
For the first time ever, young cruisers will be able to become Captain Minnie Mouse and Captain Mickey Mouse with these adorable makeovers inspired by the characters’ signature Disney Cruise Line looks. Today, I’m thrilled to take you on the journey from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany to the North Sea, where the Disney Wish entered open water for the first time.
It took about 24 hours to complete the trip on the River Ems – traveling a distance of 26 miles at the slow and steady pace of two knots. The voyage included navigating locks, drawbridges and tight clearings along the way. Watch the video below to see the action!
This shipbuilding milestone involved great teamwork, precision and attention to detail. Did you know conditions have to be just right to sail the River Ems (including – believe it or not – a full moon to raise the tides for the ship to clear the river’s depth)? That’s not the only factor. The ship must travel backwards, stern-first! Our stern character, Rapunzel, led us fearlessly to the Disney Wish’s new destination.
Not only is this an important tradition for the shipyard and the Walt Disney Imagineering Germany team, it is special to locals in the Papenburg and Leer area. The occasion brought out many marveling spectators along the route. Families even got to wave to some special friends!
Now that the Disney Wish has arrived in Eemshaven, Netherlands, we will begin a series of tests known as sea trials. Before you know it, summer will be here and we will be welcoming guests aboard the Disney Wish to experience their favorite Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars stories like never before.

Our Wish Come True! Disney Cruise Line Takes Delivery of the Disney Wish
During a traditional maritime ceremony held today in Bremerhaven, Germany, Disney Cruise Line took delivery of our newest ship, the Disney Wish!
Delivery is the final milestone in the ship’s construction journey, which began more than two years ago at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany and was made possible through thousands of shipyard workers and the creative vision of Disney Imagineers.
Disney Cruise Line President Thomas Mazloum and Meyer Werft Managing Director Jan Meyer signed the official documents transferring ownership of the Disney Wish from the shipbuilder to Disney.
Numerous Meyer Weft and Disney Cruise Line executives came together to witness the lowering of the Meyer Werft flag and raising of the Disney Cruise Line flag on the ship.
Disney Cruise Line presented Meyer Werft with an elegant Cinderella statuette commemorating the beautiful life-sized bronze statue that welcomes guests in the ship’s Grand Hall. A pillar of The Walt Disney Company’s legacy, Cinderella’s story is the epitome of magic transforming wishes into dreams and dreams into reality.
Following the ceremony, Captain Marco Nogara took the helm of the Disney Wish for the transatlantic voyage from Bremerhaven to her home in Port Canaveral, Florida.
The Disney Wish, the fifth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, introduces a brand-new, distinctly Disney design concept unlike anything at sea. The motif of enchantment — found at the heart of so many beloved Disney stories — is the architectural and thematic foundation of the ship’s design, weaving imagination, emotion and adventure into the very fabric of the vessel’s unique personality. The ship features new spaces and experiences infused with more Disney storytelling than ever, bringing to life the fantastical worlds and beloved characters at the heart of Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars adventures like never before.
The Disney Wish sets sail on its maiden voyage from Port Canaveral on July 14.
