China Eastern partners with Disney to tap tourism market
A memorandum of understanding was signed between China Eastern Airlines Corp Ltd and Disney Destinations International on Friday to promote their business in China's tourism market.
The cooperation will focus on three key areas — developing holiday packages for guests to experience Disney Destinations, conducting co-branded marketing and promotional activities, and leveraging distribution channels to help distribute Disney's popular products and services — said Aliana Ho, vice-president of Asia-Pacific regional sales and travel operations, The Walt Disney Co (Asia-Pacific) Ltd.
Fresh data from the United Nations World Tourism Organization shows that China was the largest outbound tourism market for the second consecutive year after surpassing Germany in 2012, with 98.2 million person-trips in 2013.
China's expenditure on travel abroad reached $102 billion in 2012, making it the top tourism source market in the world in terms of spending. In 2013, the domestic tourism market posted 3.25 billion person-trips, and the total expenditure was more than threefold that of 2008 at $403 billion.

The exhibition invites visitors to have a taste of the Disneyland under construction, according to the organizer. Many of the exhibits have been transported from the Walt Disney Family Museum in Los Angeles, like the manuscripts of early animation producers.
The center of the mall's third floor has been transformed into a magic house with a giant Mickey above, greeting visitors. Classic cartoon figures, created by the company and its sub-companies over the past 90 years, are presented, including Winnie the Pooh.
Visitors can enjoy one of Disney's earliest film, Steamboat Willie. The film, which was screened in New York city in 1928, was considered the first fully synchronized sound cartoon.
Visual and audio technologies have been applied to make the exhibition interactive.
In the Snow White section, a magic mirror on the wall astonishes visitors. Like the evil queen in the fairytale, visitors can stand before the mirror and ask: "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" One can see images of Snow White appear in the mirror.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, produced by the company, was considered the world's first full-length animated featured film.
In the Lion King section, stand at a designated position and enjoy the songs from the film in surround sound. The Lion King, Disney's 32nd full-length animated film, was one of the most successful Disney films and was turned into a Broadway opera.
Still the most charming star of the exhibition is Mickey Mouse, while the brightest of all is a Mickey Mouse model inlaid with more than 20,000 Swarovski crystals.
Four young artists, Yan Wei and Guan Chun from the Chinese mainland, and Dorophy Tang and Kenny Wang from Hong Kong, created different series of Mickey Mouse models with their personal styles.

The construction of the Disneyland Metro station will be based on "Dream Journey" while taking inspiring elements from other projects into consideration.
"Dream Journey" highlights fantasy elements like twinkling lights and Mickey Mouse's distinctive silhouette, together with a service center designed in the shape of a pumpkin. To serve the theme park, Metro Line 11 will have an extension from Luoshan Road Station to Disneyland, with stations at Kangqiao Road E, Hengxin Road and Disneyland.
The extension will be completed and put into operation in 2015, ahead of Disneyland’s opening.
Line 11 won’t totally become a special Disney Line like the one in Hong Kong because it will mainly serve its normal passengers.
About three among the total of 60 trains on Line 11 will have Disney elements painted on and within the trains.
Passengers who change trains at the Luoshan Road Station will have a chance to ride on the one of the three Disney-decor trains.
The 9.2-kilometer extension will include 7.7 kilometers above ground but the final stretch will be underground. Passengers will enter the park through an underground passageway.
The under-construction Disneyland Metro station will feature a blue color scheme that highlights fantasy elements as was selected by a public poll on its decor.
According to a plan unveiled with the city’s top planning body, the Disneyland station will be semi-underground, with a skylight to bring natural light indoors. It will be surrounded by an artificial lake, trees and shrubs. |

| Affordable ticket prices promised for Shanghai Disneyland
City’s tourism authorities have promised that the ticket price for Shanghai Disneyland will be made affordable for domestic tourists.
Discounts will also be given to seniors, students and children, said Yang Jinsong, director of the Shanghai Tourism Administration.
Construction of the Shanghai Disneyland is proceeding well, and its ticket prices will be set at an affordable level for domestic tourists, a Shanghai official said.
Yang Jinsong, director of the Shanghai Tourism Administration, told that the tourism bureau has discussed future operations, ticket price and other issues with related parties.
Although ticket prices have not yet been finalized, Yang said they would be set in accordance with economic and consumption conditions.
"The goal is to both maintain the sustainable development of Disney, and to control the ticket price within affordable levels for Chinese tourists," said Yang.
Shanghai Disneyland is expected to open by the end of next year.
Visitors to the Shanghai resort are expected to be familiar with Disney story-telling and characters and it's hoped their trip will encourage them to buy Disney products. |

Campus roadshow program kicks off in Shanghai
Shanghai Disney Resort today launched its 2014 China Campus Roadshow Program, a precursor to the resort's future mass recruitment drive, and a key step in the resort's overall recruitment plan. As construction continues on the resort, the Shanghai Disney Resort management company is preparing for operational readiness, with recruitment and training a key focus, and the Campus Roadshow provides an early opportunity for Chinese university and college students to learn about the resort's exciting career opportunities.
The 2014 China Campus Roadshow Program will visit several universities and colleges in Shanghai before moving on to other regions including Zhejiang, Anhui and Henan. At each stop, senior leaders from the resort's management company will introduce the resort's unique career opportunities to university and college students. The program aims to support the resort's mass graduate recruitment campaign to be launched in the second half of this year, when the resort will recruit several thousand graduates to fill positions in a wide range of disciplines to support the resort's operations, such as food and beverage, merchandise, park operations and hotel operations.
"In the coming two years, the development of Shanghai Disney Resort will rapidly generate many great employment opportunities for Chinese talent at all levels," said Mike Crawford, General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort. "We are seeking to attract local talent from Shanghai and across China who are interested in the tourism and service industry and who are driven by a passion for excellence to join us in creating a world-class family vacation destination in China."
In parallel with the campus roadshow program, in the coming weeks Shanghai Disney Resort's Entertainment team will present information sessions to performing art colleges in Shanghai, to support the resort's talent auditions beginning in the second half of this year. The focus of these programs will be to attract candidates for the resort's entertainment roles, and to support the development of China's cultural industries.
"The shows and performances in Shanghai Disney Resort will provide a unique platform to integrate Chinese creative and performing talent into our world-class Disney productions," said Laurie Jordan, Vice President of Entertainment and Costuming, Shanghai Disney Resort. "We look forward to recruiting top Chinese talent, both onstage and behind the scenes, to help bring our exciting entertainment program to life."
The Shanghai Disney Resort management company and its two owner companies currently employ a team of over 700 local Cast Members and Imagineers working on the development and operation of the resort. The team will expand rapidly in the coming 18 months in order to support the start of operations of the resort, targeted for late 2015.
