Shōgun [FX - 2024]

Shōgun est une excellente série. Je ne peux que conseiller de la découvrir.

Le spectateur est un peu comme le personnage de John Blackstorm : perdu dans une culture et une langue qu'il me maîtrise pas, il doit apprendre à en saisir peu à peu les codes, où la violence brutale côtoie le plus fin des raffinements. La grande présence de la langue japonaise participe à cette immersion. Les jeux de pouvoirs sont captivants, et les scènes d'actions se mêlent à celles de contemplations.

La série est magnifique visuellement, avec une attention minutieuse apportée aux détails pour retranscrire le Japon féodal. Les costumes sont d'une qualité remarquable et les décors superbes.

Le casting est absolument impeccable, en particulier pour les personnages japonais qui arrivent à faire passer tellement d'émotions en restant quasiment impassibles.

Hiroyuki Sanada donne beaucoup de gravité et de prestance à Yoshii Toranaga, tout en gardant un petit côté espiègle dans le regard. Le personnage pourrait pourtant vite sembler froid, calculateur et antipathique.

A l'inverse, Cosmo Jarvis est un John Blackthorne explosif, tel un éléphant au milieu d'un magasin de porcelaine. J'aime le fait que la série évite le côté 'sauveur blanc', l'étranger qui arrive et qui résout les problèmes. C'est même l'inverse, car il est souvent manipulé par les autres malgré sa bravoure. Il y a quelques choses d'assez tragique dans ce personnage, qui cherche à fuir sa prison dorée pour reprendre sa liberté de naviguer sur son navire. Mais il y a aussi beaucoup de symboliques, avec ce personnage mis à nu (littéralement) au début qui peu à peu apprend les codes, pour finalement "renaitre" après avoir tant cherché son indépendance et fuir la mort.

Mais mon coup de cœur est pour Lady Mariko, magnifiquement interprétée par Anna Sawai. Tant d'élégance et de force. Un personnage complexe, possédant une aura qui ne laisse pas indifférent. Rien que pour l'épisode 9, l'actrice mériterait de nombreuses nominations et récompenses.

Et quel final. Beaucoup d'émotions. Je n'ai d'ailleurs pas pu retenir quelques larmes lors du dernier moment entre Blackthorne et Fuji.

J'ai attendu chaque nouvel épisode avec grande impatience, et j'ai été captivé du début à la fin. Je pense revisionner intégralement la série très prochainement, afin d'essayer de saisir ce qui m'a échappé au premier visionnage.

J'ai fini l'épisode final hier soir !!!!!!!!! c'était excellent !!! Je sais que ce dernier épisode va beaucoup diviser mais pour moi il reste dans la veine de tout ce qu'a fait la série jusqu'ici donc j'en suis très content !

Je trouve la série vraiment très qualitative , que ce soit les décors, les acteurs qui sont tous vraiment très très bon (y compris l'anjin qui reçoit beaucoup de critiques injustifiées à mon gout), et le rythme du montage, la réalisation calme et posée et les musiques contribuent à restituer une ambiance incroyable qui retranscrit bien le Japon de cette époque.

Une vraie réussite !!! J'en aurais aimé plus mais bon, il n'y aura hélas pas de saison 2.

Alors les créateurs Justin Marks et Rachel Kondo avaient confié à plusieurs reprises leurs choix de terminer Shōgun avec le dixième épisode, la chaîne FX a conclu un nouvel accord avec le producteur et acteur Hiroyuki Sanada, qui incarne le seigneur Yoshii Toranaga. EXCLUSIVE: Hiroyuki Sanada, star and producer of FX‘s limited series Shōgun, has closed a deal to return as Lord Yoshii Toranaga, sources tell Deadline. Securing Sanada, whose character’s journey to become shōgun and lead Japan to an era of peace was chronicled in the 10-episode adaptation of James Clavell’s novel, has been considered crucial to any plan to extend Shogun beyond its original installment.

Other elements are still being worked out and deals are being finalized as part of an effort by FX to take Shogun to a second season in light of the big commercial and critical success of the limited series. The outcome of the effort would determine whether Shōgun would be considered a limited or drama series going forward, which could have major ramifications on the 2024 Emmy race, with the timing of the decision tied to the deadline for Emmy submissions.

In part because of the strikes, which delayed new seasons of ongoing series and drove networks and platforms to lean heavily on limited series, the drama series field is lighter than usual this year while the limited/anthology race, in which Shōgun is a lead contender, is one of the most competitive ever assembled in any Emmy genre.

While there are precedents, including True Detective‘s first season competing as a drama series instead of limited/anthology — something that was rectified for its subsequent installments — the vast majority of limited series are submitted as such. If they subsequently get additional seasons, the shows move to drama series starting in Season 2, which was the case with Downton Abbey, Big Little Lies and The White Lotus.

Shōgun is looking to move into the drama series category from the start if a determination about a potential second installment is made in time to adjust Emmy submissions. Not all the pieces are in place for that, sources said, but the significant deal with Sanada is a great start.

As the titular character, Sanada was at the heart of the story in the original installment, which Toranaga, a brilliant strategist and a master of the long game, spent largely in opposition, plotting how to overthrow the oppressive fellow Regents in feudal Japan and unite the country.

Six years in the making across multiple continents, Shōgun, written by Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, is FX’s most expensive series to date. Ahead of the series premiere, FX Chairman John Landgraf said that he was hoping it would do well so he and his team could take more shots with big-scope, big-budget series like that.

Following great reviews and strong performance as Shōgun amassed 9M views globally across Hulu, Disney+ and Star+ in its first six days, becoming the company’s No. 1 general entertainment series internationally and the No. 1 FX premiere on the Disney streaming platforms, the network is looking to extend that success with another season — and capitalize on its investment recreating 17th century Japan in Canada where Shōgun was filmed.

Veteran actor-producer Sanada, whose prolific career spans decades, was recently seen in John Wick: Chapter 4, Bullet Train and Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead and next reprises his Mortal Kombat role in the upcoming sequel. He is repped by Gersh, Axon Entertainment, Lighthouse Entertainment, MPR and Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton.

La saison 2 permettrait d'avoir une vue sur la guerre et la prise de pouvoir de Toronaga ce que beaucoup espéraient voir dans la saison 1, mais justement, cette fin un peu onirique ou justement on parle de la guerre mais on ne la voit pas me plaisait pas mal.

Donc si c'est bien fait pourquoi pas, en gardant l'ambiance de la saison 1 en plus épique, si c'est juste pour faire du spectaculaire sans vraiment de scénario derrière la par contre je ne serais pas d'accord !

Suite au succès mondial de Shōgun, FX, Hulu et les ayants droit de James Clavell vont travailler à développer la saga avec deux saisons supplémentaires.

Les principaux partenaires créatifs de la série seront de retour notamment les co-créateurs, les producteurs exécutifs et scénaristes Justin Marks et Rachel Kondo, la productrice exécutive Michaela Clavell ainsi que l'acteur et producteur de la série Hiroyuki Sanada. Le calendrier de production n'a pas été fixé, mais les discussions autour de l'intrigue débuteront cet été.

Il n'est pas précisé si cette suite prolongera l'histoire des personnages de Shōgun ou si elle s'inspirera des autres livres de la saga asiatique de James Clavell.
